"Finland’s parliamentary elections in 2015 revealed a divided country. The chasm between urban and rural population seemed wider than ever before. The rise of right-wing extremism led the liberal urbanites to generalize the provincial population as simple rednecks. This got me infuriated. Some part of this feeling transferred into the film Red Static that we were filming at the time. The story of old friends reuniting got new meanings. A chamber play became a plunge into the mind of a friend turned to a stranger. The movie paints that bleakness of the mind with a broad brush, but also tries to understand the causes behind the darkness."
